A Letter from Mike Huckabee

Mike Huckabee for President - Proven Leader, Authentic Conservative
Over the last two weeks we have had over 3,000 contributions raised on our website. A great accomplishment exceeding even our own expectations. During that same period of a time a Newsweek poll of likely Iowa Caucus goers has us climbing into fourth place, 3 points ahead of John McCain and within 1 point of Rudy Giuliani in Iowa.Clearly our campaign message is resonating and folks are beginning to notice. In fact, just this morning Newt Gingrich on This Week with George Stephanopoulos said:“I think Huckabee is very effective, and if Huckabee can find money, he will be dramatically competitive almost overnight. He’s probably the best performer in terms of giving speeches and being appealing…I mean, there’s something about him that is just – you just have to like Mike,”

Speaker Gingrich wasn’t alone. Former President Bill Clinton this morning speaking to Tim Russert on Meet the Press said I was the only GOP “dark horse that’s got any kind of chance.”

With momentum building and folks beginning to notice, how can we kick things up a notch?

Frankly, what we need is fuel to spread the word and help energize and expand our base of support.

As someone that has contributed to my campaign already, I would like you to immediately consider supporting us again with one of the options below:

1) Match your previous contribution. Whether you contributed $1 or $1,000 another contribution matching the amount of your most recent contribution would significantly help the campaign’s bottom line and help us prepare for our first television advertising in Iowa.

2) Contribute $1,000. Will you be 1 of the 100 people we are targeting to contribute $1,000 today before the midnight deadline?

3) Contribute the maximum contribution. You can legally contribute $2,300 per person. Consider making a contribution equal to the difference between $2,300 and what you have previously given. Are there 25, 50 or even 100 people willing to stand with me by maxing out their contribution today?

4) Make an emergency contribution. Make an emergency contribution of $1 (a buck for Huck!), $5, $10, $25, $50, $100 or even $500!

I urge you to choose one of these options and make your contribution before Midnight tonight!

With our rising in the polls, a proven history of turning out the vote in Iowa, a surge of contributions this week and buzz building in Washington now is the time to strike.

Please support our campaign today and stand with me again.

With deep gratitude for all you have already done,

Mike Huckabee

Mike Huckabee on the Issues-Immigration

taken from Mike Huckabee’s Issues Page

  • My number one priority is to secure America’s border.
  • We have to know who is coming into our country, where they are going, and why they are here. We need a fence along our border with Mexico, electronic in some places, and more highly-trained border agents.
  • Those who are caught trying to enter illegally must be detained, processed, and deported.
  • Illegal immigrants already living among us who commit crimes must be prosecuted to the full extent of the law and incarcerated or deported.

I opposed the amnesty bill that was defeated by the Senate in June. I support the $3 billion that Congress recently appropriated for border security. These funds will be used to train and deploy 23,000 more agents, add four drone airplanes, build 700 miles of fence and 300 miles of vehicle barriers, and erect 105 radar and camera towers. They will be used to end “catch and release” by providing money to “catch and detain” those caught entering illegally and to crack down on those who enter legally, but overstay their visas. These border security provisions will stem the tide of illegals, which is what we must do before we can turn the tide and deal with those who are already here. Before you fix the damage in your house caused by a leaking roof, you stop the leak, which is what this legislation will do.

My number one priority is to have a secure border. Right now, we have too many people entering the country illegally, and this must stop. We can’t turn the tide until we stem the tide. We need to know who is coming into our country, where they are going, and why they are here. We need to create a process to allow people to come here to do the jobs – plucking chickens, tarring roofs, picking fruits – that are going unfilled by our citizens. They must have a tamper-proof, scannable I. D. with a finger or retinal scan, so that their employers know they belong here.

Besides stopping terrorists, we must weed out those with a criminal background or a communicable disease. We have to build a fence along our border with Mexico, parts of which will be electronic. We need more well-trained border agents and cooperation agreements with local and state law enforcement officials, so that we have a clear and consistent approach by all jurisdictions.

Those who are caught trying to enter illegally must be detained, processed, and deported. Illegal immigrants who are already living among us and commit crimes must be prosecuted to the full extent of the law and incarcerated or deported.

Newt Won’t Run For President!

This could be great news if Newt comes out in support of Governor Huckabee!  Here is the article from Fox News about Newt Gingrich.

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich told FOX News Saturday that he won’t run for president in 2008.

“For the moment, I’m just going to watch the race,” Gingrich told FOX News in an exclusive interview.

Gingrich hinted off-and-on at an interest in pursuing the Republican nomination over the past several months but decided his affiliation with a non-partisan advocacy group won’t allow him to jump in the race.

“We would be totally irresponsible to leave this new organization,” Gingrich said.

Instead of joining a crowded field of presidential hopefuls, Gingrich will dedicate his time as chairman of American Solutions for Winning the Future, a non-partisan group aimed developing ideas to solve the nation’s problems.

The Web site message from Gingrich says the group is “designed to rise above traditional gridlocked partisanship, to provide real, significant solutions to the most important issues facing our country.”

Gingrich would not endorse a specific candidate and said he “couldn’t imagine” being a vice presidential candidate if offered the opportunity.

Gingrich joked with FOX News more than a year ago that his flirtation with a White House run was in part to sell books and give lectures, and to focus the debate on his issues.

For several months Gingrich said he would run for president if he could raise $30 million dollars. No candidate in this race has ever raised that much in one quarter.
